📄Documents

The required documents for renting a car in the UAE differ for residents and tourists. Here’s what you’ll need:

For UAE Residents:

  • UAE Driver’s License: Residents must present a valid UAE driver’s license for all rentals. This is the primary requirement for both short-term and long-term rentals.

  • Emirates ID: The Emirates ID, a national identification card, is required to verify identity and address in the UAE.

  • Credit Card: A credit card in the renter’s name is essential for covering the security deposit.

For Tourists:

  • Valid Driver’s License: Tourists can use their home country’s driver’s license if their country is recognized by the UAE for car rentals. Commonly accepted countries include the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, and several European nations. If your country is not on the list, you will need an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your national driver’s license.

  • Passport and Visa: A valid passport and a UAE entry visa (tourist visa or any other visa type that allows entry) are required.

  • Credit Card: A credit card in the renter’s name is needed for the security deposit.

For both residents and tourists, having a mobile phone number is important, and proof of address may be requested, especially for long-term rentals.

To rent a car in the UAE, the type of driving license you need depends on whether you are a resident or a tourist.

For UAE Residents:

  • UAE Driver’s License: UAE residents must hold a valid UAE driver’s license. This is required for all car rentals, whether short-term or long-term.

For Tourists:

  • Home Country Driver’s License: Tourists from countries recognized by the UAE can use their home country’s driver’s license. Countries like the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, and many European nations are generally accepted.

  • International Driving Permit (IDP): If your country is not recognized by the UAE, you will need to present an International Driving Permit (IDP) along with your home country’s driver’s license.

💰Additional Costs

Yes, a deposit is typically required when renting a car in the UAE. The deposit is usually blocked on your credit card at the time of booking and refunded once the car is returned in good condition and all fines or fees are settled. The amount of the deposit can vary depending on the car model, rental duration, and rental company policies. However, in some cases, a deposit may not be required. To find out if you’re eligible for this, please contact us directly for more information.

Renting a car in the UAE is usually more cost-effective for short-term needs, especially if you’re visiting as a tourist or staying temporarily. When you rent a car, you avoid long-term commitments such as maintenance, insurance, and registration fees.

Salik is Dubai’s electronic toll system, designed to make driving smoother and more efficient by eliminating traditional toll booths. Every rental car in the UAE is equipped with a Salik tag, a red sticker placed on the windshield, which automatically records toll charges as you pass through Salik gates. A fee of AED 5 will be deducted from the toll account whenever you use a road with a Salik gate. These charges are then added to your final rental bill when the car is returned.

It’s important to note that the Salik charges apply not only to rental cars but also to taxis. Whether you’re driving a rental car or taking a taxi, you will incur Salik charges, which are billed at the end of the trip or rental period.

Traffic fines can happen, especially when exceeding the speed limit. Speed cameras monitor the majority of roads, making it easy to overspeed, even when enjoying the smooth driving experience. If you commit a traffic violation while driving a rental car, a fine will be issued to the driver. The rental company will pay the fine on your behalf and charge you the fine amount, along with any processing fees. To avoid fines, always stay within the allowed speed limit, ensure your RTA parking fees are paid, and follow all road signs.

⚙️Features Included

Rental cars in the UAE typically come with essential features for a safe and comfortable driving experience. Most cars include air conditioning, power windows, and Bluetooth connectivity. Higher-end models may also feature leather seats, GPS navigation, a rear-view camera, parking sensors, and keyless entry. Additional features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and USB ports are common in many vehicles. The most important features for each car are clearly listed on our website, so you can easily review the specifications before making your choice.

📜Rules

Yes, someone else can drive the rented car, but they must be registered with On Track Car Rentals as an additional driver. There may be an additional fee for adding an extra driver, and all drivers must meet the same requirements as the main renter, including having a valid driver’s license and being at least the minimum required age. It’s important to register additional drivers to avoid complications in case of a car accident. If the driver’s details are not registered, the police might find you at fault, even if the accident was not your fault. Be sure to inform us about any additional drivers when making your reservation.

No, smoking is strictly prohibited in all rental cars from On Track Car Rentals. To maintain the cleanliness and quality of our vehicles, we ask that you refrain from smoking inside the car. Any smoking-related damage or odor may result in additional cleaning fees. We appreciate your understanding in helping us maintain a pleasant environment for all of our customers.

In the UAE, parking regulations are strictly enforced. You must park in designated parking areas and pay for parking when required. Failing to follow parking rules can result in fines, and your car may even be towed.

Parking Payment Breakdown:

  • Abu Dhabi: You can pay for parking using mParking via SMS to 3009 or through the Abu Dhabi Parking app. There are also public parking meters in many areas where you can pay using credit cards or coins.

  • Dubai: Parking in Dubai can be paid using mParking through the RTA Dubai app. You can also use Dubai Parking Meters, which accept credit cards, coins, and NOL cards (Dubai’s travel card). Additionally, there are paid parking zones (blue and green areas) where fees vary depending on the location.

Shopping Malls: In most shopping malls, parking is free for a certain period of time (typically 2-3 hours). After that, an hourly rate applies. Always be mindful of parking time limits to avoid fines.

Roadside, Underground, and Open-Space Parking in Dubai: Dubai offers various parking options, including roadside, underground, and open-space parking areas designed for convenience.

Always remember to pay for your RTA parking via paid parking machines or by sending an SMS to 7275 with your car plate and parking zone number in Dubai. For Abu Dhabi, use SMS to 3009 with your car plate and parking zone number. Failing to pay will result in fines.
